The problem is rarely a lack of ambition or ability. More often, it comes down to a leadership skill we rarely discuss: accountability.

Over the past 25 years through the Network, I have seen a recurring pattern. Whether a woman is building a business, leading a team, returning to education or preparing for the next stage of her career, most already know what they need to do. They have attended workshops, downloaded guides, listened to podcasts and invested in their development.

Yet months later, many admit their most important goals remain untouched.

The common assumption is that motivation is the problem. However, research suggests otherwise. But human behaviour, especially in leadership, is rarely that simple because simplicity can be misleading.

What these labels show is that leadership rarely acknowledges behaviour and cannot be judged in a vacuum.
