The gap between what Black women founders build and what they receive in return for building it is not a confidence problem, a pipeline problem or a visibility problem. It is a structural one. Documented, quantified and persistent across every stage of the business journey. From the first loan application to the boardroom where scale-up decisions are made.

Research from the British Business Bank confirms that 59% of Black entrepreneurs believe accessing finance would be difficult, the highest proportion of any group surveyed. Extend Ventures data, placed before Parliament, found that Black women received just 0.02% of UK venture capital investment. A 2023 British Business Bank report found zero Black women in senior positions across UK venture capital firms which means the 0.02% is not a gap but a direct reflection of who is making the decisions.

These are not abstract statistics.

For founders at the emerging stage, they describe the calculation behind an application form that was considered carefully and then quietly not submitted. At the established stage, they describe the approval odds working against a business whose numbers are solid. For those approaching scale, they describe a venture capital landscape that the data confirms was never designed with this group in mind.

What the full post argues, drawing on the British Business Bank, the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Carlton Brown's UK Black Business Entrepreneur Report 2026, the Kauffman Fellows and the nineteen-year model Ireland built for women's enterprise is that the path forward is neither abstract nor dependent on waiting for the system to correct itself.

The full post covers the structural evidence stage by stage, the cultural and intergenerational capital that formal systems consistently undervalue, the role artificial intelligence can play as an operational equaliser and the economic argument worth £310 billion to UK GVA that reframes this conversation entirely.

The full analysis is in this group. It was written for founders at every stage of this journey and for everyone building the infrastructure around them.

If this is useful, supporting it with a like helps others in this group find it. Those with something to add from their own experience at any stage are encouraged to do so in the comments. Sharing it with someone who needs to see this evidence set out plainly is the most direct way to extend its reach.
