The gap between what Black women founders build and what they receive in return for building it is not a confidence problem, a pipeline problem or a visibility problem. It is a structural one. Research from the British Business Bank confirms that 59% of Black entrepreneurs believe accessing finance would be difficult, the highest proportion of any group surveyed. Extend Ventures data, placed before Parliament, found that Black women received just 0.02% of UK venture capital investment. A 2023 British Business Bank report found zero Black women in senior positions across UK venture capital firms which means the 0.02% is not a gap but a direct reflection of who is making the decisions.
